Cadillac was one of the first brands to incorporate the new technology into its lineup. Now, nearly 70 years later, the next generation of highway driving comes in the form of Cadillac Super Cruise™ technology.
LOOK, MOM; NO HANDS
Super Cruise™ is the first true hands-free driver assistance technology that you can use on limited access freeways. To make sure the driver doesn't become distracted, Super Cruise™ includes a proprietary head tracking software. This watches the driver's eyes to make sure they are paying attention to the road. The system will alert the driver if they are not keeping their eyes on the road.
COMPARISON
In October 2018, Consumer Reports did its first comparative review of automated driving systems. In its review, it compared Super Cruise to Tesla's Autopilot, Nissan's ProPilot Assist, and Volvo's Pilot Assist. Super Cruise™ came away with the best ranking thanks to its focus on keeping the driver engaged and making it clear when it is safe to use the technology.
MAPPING
To ensure a precise driving experience while using Super Cruise™, Cadillac used light radar scanning to map over 130,000 miles of limited access freeways. These scans are accurate to within 5 centimeters. With this level of accuracy, Super Cruise can help make your daily commute or other long drives a little bit easier.
ONSTAR®
The Super Cruise™ package includes a three-year subscription to OnStar®. After that, you will need to continue your OnStar subscription in order for Super Cruise™ to work. It relies on accurate GPS information and a good cell signal.
AVAILABILITY
Super Cruise™ technology is currently available on 2018 and 2019 CT6 models. However, Cadillac has plans to roll out this technology across its lineup over the coming years.
